An obligation in the moral sense, not legal, etc. A moral obligation.

Say a child is in the middle of a road. A car will eventually hit the child, but YOU have plenty of time to save the child. There is absolutely NO risk of you getting hurt.

Is it an obligation to save the child?

If you say yes, we're at "name the trait". (Why is it a moral obligation to save a child, but not an animal?)

If you say no, then I'm interested in hearing your morals.

Let me explain better: In the news today, it's come out that humans from different parts of the world are different species. Scots are a different species than Germans. You're the Scot, I'm the German. We're neighbors, good friends, our kids are friends, etc, etc. Is it a moral obligation for me to save your kid?

Assuming its a first world type of situation then I would have to say yes.

Cool, so the trait "species" isn't justification to deny the obligation to an animal

Well like I said, my personal view is one a lot of people would just dismiss outright.
