Note: Very few people just 'pick it up.' It's usually thousands of hours and I'd say that I wasn't a good guitarist until about a decade's worth of learning. I do have high standards, but a decade seems to be pretty common. Prior to that, I was able to perform but I'd not really call myself good. I'd say 'passable' is an appropriate term. I'd fool a layman into thinking I was good - but a skilled guitarist would see that I was still very early on in my learning process. It also helps if you have friends to jam with. I'm assuming your real goal is to have fun and not actually to dedicate your life to becoming the next Django Reinhardt.
