I have every intention to monitor your progress. ;-)
You're gonna want to tell someone and ask someone. So, it's not like you can really stop me!
I will help and I do say things should go in a certain order, and I say those things for a reason.
Just when you think you've got the fretboard memorized, I'll make sure you learn about some alternate tunings. But, seeing as you'll have worked out that there are no sharps between B and C and no sharps between E and F, you'll be able to both figure it out in your head and diagram it on paper.
Well, if you want to go that far.
It's addictive. It really is. It's like a drug. I fiend when I don't play guitar for even a single day. I'll find myself practicing scales in my head and working my fingers over a non-existent neck.
Oh, you might want to learn some finger exercises and stretches.
I'm guessing a that'll be a future homework assignment.
You can probably bet on it.
If your fingers get really painful, stop. Do not play past that. You can permanently damage your nerve endings, or worse. There are also some RSI issues that you should be aware of - but form helps with those.
You know the lyrics:
"Played until my fingers bled..."
Yeah, that's actually a fucking stupid idea.
Don't do that.
Except, you're not going to listen to me. Nobody does. I don't even listen to that rule. Why? Because I'm an idiot.
But, the rule is stop when it hurts bad enough to hurt when you're not playing - or before that, if you can.
Don't worry, nobody listens to that rule. But, you have been warned.
