Yeah, it's pretty fucking complicated. From the perspective of a person in a single car, it all looks pretty simple and people are so stupid! But, in reality, it's pretty complicated - and people are so stupid!
Many problems could be reduced by changing driving behaviors and that seems pretty simple, but it's devilishly complex and not always intuitive. Optimizing self-driving cars is going to be an interesting nut to crack. I'm not sure how far the research has gone, but it's almost certainly complicated - even before one adds the human element and the inherent issues of self-interest traits in behavior - including the political aspects and social dynamics.
Oh I do not envy the guys developing self driving cars that is an uphill battle if ive ever seen one. You proved to me that it’s incredibly complicated and it’s influenced the way I drive and now I just go “oh well it’s complicated” instead of “what is all these fucking idiots problems” it’s had a positive effect on my driving experience, as understanding often does with things. So thanks again.
