Sounds like a pretty awesome day except that last part. I've ridden without proper gear in weather that cold and I could have cut glass after that if you know what I'm saying. That kind of riding leaves your nipples sore for days.
I actually am pretty anal about riding only while wearing my gear. Even when it's hot, I'm wearing my leathers. The only thing I'll skimp on is gloves, and that's very seldom.
You may be specifically interested in https://fngt.gq, which was mentioned in the article. You can do things like track your progress, check the archives, etc... I'm going to focus more of my answers there, as well as have it as a repository/archive. It's largely a framework and y'all can mostly use it for whatever you find a need for.
It's not 'officially' open, but it's fairly feature complete. From the looks of things (seeing as there's but one vote) it's going to go invite only in about 2 weeks.

It's open to a vote and up for the community to decide, but the reason is to keep the riffraff out and to keep the members to people who are actually interested in contributing. Guests will still be able to view the site, and even make comments that need mod approval, but to register they'd need an invitation code.
Right now, the only vote (I abstained) is to turn it invite only. I'm largely indifferent, but it'd be nice to keep the hosting costs reasonable.
