Yeah I read books and drew pictures all day. Though it is nice to have somebody to talk to sometimes. at lunch and supper we could come out for half an hour and then everybody was talking non stop.
I went to jail on a Friday night (they didn't set bail until Monday) and I was locked down with just myself. They fed me through a hole in the door. There was a second bunk in the room, but I was by myself. I want to say I didn't have a cellmate the entire time, but that was many years ago and those memories are a bit fuzzy. I'd broken a cop's jaw.
I'm sure I've told you part of that story before, or most of it. I broke a cop's jaw and got away with it - meaning I didn't go to prison. I paid out the ass as I pleaded guilty in three civil cases surrounding the event. This was back when I was pretty poor.
You got lucky, they usually do not take kindly to those that hurt their officers
I didn't even get my ass kicked by the police.
Not one of 'em hit me. Even the officer didn't hit me back. I stopped immediately, when I realized it was a police officer. He'd grabbed me from behind while I was sitting on a guy and slapping the shit out of him because he had hit his girlfriend in front of me.
I was actually arrested while I was supposed to be performing.
The cop hadn't identified himself as a cop and just grabbed me. So, I stood up at the same time I was turning and punched the person that had grabbed me from behind. It was just about the same time that I hit 'em that I noticed they were a cop.
If they'd identified themselves, I'd have not punched them. Policy was that they were to identify themselves clearly and he didn't do so. That's how it ended up being a civil suit. The dude I was kicking the shit out of sued me, his girlfriend sued me for mental trauma, and the cop sued me for lost wages and medical expenses.
All told, it was like 20k for legal fees and another 110k in judgments.
