The Tool one's beginning strongly reminds of a song but I just can't remember it right now. It's that power note that is really reminiscent. Damn, I'm like HAL in 2001 "I can feel it Dave, my mind is fading".

The second one is pretty trippy with the reversing. I like it.

It's that one note in particular but I just can't place it. Sometimes it takes a while and I'll suddenly remember days later, I'll see if it does.

That's me on the D riff, and my guitar buddy wrote that contrasting riff over it. We called it "Duel" as in dueling guitars, but never knew where to go with it. Mine is a plain D with the pinky on the E string 3rd fret basically. His is a form of A, but I can't recall immediately the fingering. That one isn't that hard to re-create.
