That's not actually true.

First, the coffee was exceptionally hot - literally scalding to where the lady needed surgery.

Second, on appeal, she got very little money - like 10k or something stupidly low and as I recall McDonald's simply never even paid that out.

People trot it out as real, but that's really far from the truth. You can look it up if you're bored.

People have been trotting it out for decades, even though it's not true.

I just remember hearing she got over two million when they refused to cover the medical bills on the news years ago.

Yeah, there was an appeal and she got shit. Her medical bills were like 10k. Something like that. They offered her like $800.

It also wasn't frivolous, even though it's trotted out as such.

It's one of the biggest misunderstandings that persists and I suspect it's intentional - done by 'reputation managers' on behalf of McDonalds.
