Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask COF, Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Here’s something I was working on a little last week. This is also a Radiohead song, which is how I realized I never completed Creep, as it was in the file. The song is Karma Police. It’s more of a semi lo-fi pop version that a friend asked me to do the vocals on.

https://soundclick.com/r/s8ggxl

[–] 4 pts

Always a treat and that one's an interesting choice.

Hmm... I think we've recorded Creep before. I think we may even have a version of it with the band, though I'm not sure if it's me doing vocals. It's a rather dim memory, so the entire thing could be a figment of my imagination.

COF might know.

[–] 4 pts

Yeah I know the feeling. I can never remember what I’ve completed and shared vs projects that I start and never finish, or finish and never shared. Such is life!

[–] 4 pts

We check the archives before making our final decision. More than once have we been prepared to record something we've already recorded. The archive comes in handy.

[–] 3 pts

You did indeed do it with the band. It was dated 8/31/19.

[–] 3 pts

I figured you'd probably know. Thanks!

It's a pretty good song. It's also one of those songs that can be pulled off by a female vocalist. There are way too many covers of the song, but one from us is not quite one too many.

[–] 2 pts

Excellent .. I love the way it's mixed

[–] 1 pt

Thanks Carl. I got to mix this with a pretty broad dynamic range with such sparse instruments in most sections, which was a lot of fun. Thanks for listening once again!

[–] 2 pts

I always enjoy the stuff you bring . I'm a fan !!

[–] 2 pts

Sounds great. Awesome production. Only song I know from those guys is Creep. Never understood their songs. Trippy stuff.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah they’re pretty unique for sure. I’ve never listened to anything from them besides the album OK Computer and Creep, because it used to be on the radio all the time. They have some real interesting chord and melody choices.

[–] 1 pt

They're music feels so dark and sad though. The songs are intricate and intriguing, but over time it seems like they're written for people who have given up hope, and just want to dig a hole and crawl in.

I own several of their albums, but I don't listen to them any more. Maybe it's just the times we live in.

Fwiw, I got to see them at The Gorge at George about 20 years ago.

[–] 2 pts

I've never listened to Radiohead much but since hearing you do these last 2 I might have to give them more attention. Another great job!

[–] 2 pts

My dad is actually really into them. I never really listened to them much either. They’re a pretty unique band, but I do enjoy it once in a while.

[–] 1 pt

Sounds great!

[–] 1 pt

Great job. I like how you toss Yorke's stylings aside for your personal creativity and originality. Radiohead should consider covering your version.

Since it looks like Crazy is busy elsewhere tonight, here's one from the archives of him and his friend Chris doing the Eagles - Peaceful, Easy Feeling

https://soundcloud.com/user-475941830/peace

[–] 2 pts

Thanks for sharing that COF!

I'm here even when I'm not! LoL

That's so cool

[–] 2 pts

He's with a lady friend, but he'll be here.

[–] 0 pt

LoL I didn't make it! I looked at the clock and it was midnight! Where did the time go?

[–] 1 pt

That's an excellent version. A little bit country and a little bit folk.

[–] 1 pt

I really like Chris' playing. He knows a lot of older folk and country songs.

[–] 4 pts

I tried to upload this last week but Poal went haywire or something. I did the sing along with Mitch thing with Biff's track of Blowing in the Wind.

I did it the last time she posted it too. That one was like nigger-rigged. This one is more like everybody else does it.

Blowing in the Wind vocals with Biff on guitar (soundcloud.com)

[–] 2 pts

Nice! We're always happy when folks do that.

We should have a competition to see who can sing more like Bob Dylan. It'd be a good way to get people involved.

[–] 0 pt

How great. You really got the inflections and sound down well. Good job.

[–] 4 pts
[–] 3 pts

Trippy. The trippy graphic matches the music.

[–] 2 pts

Very nice. Fluid and trippy and the graphics are great, but the owl is looking into my head and it's freaking me out.

[–] 1 pt

Groovy stuff, this would be right at home on a Buckethead pike.

[–] 4 pts (edited )

Hi all, I hope we've all made it through the week relatively unscathed.

I found a song written by S.H. Dudley, back in 1903. A simple man with simple tastes, and a kindred spirit. Men like him and myself know what it takes to be truly content. I changed a few words to make it more timely.

Then I'd Be Satisfied With Life (soundcloud.com)

[–] 3 pts

Dude this is so good! I love it

[–] 1 pt

Thanks. The guy who wrote it wrote or performed on over 600 songs, and some of them were top hits of the time. His career began before songs could be mass-reproduced, so a performer would have to record the song over and over. Can you even imagine? Some people in that time would sell tens of thousands of copies of a song...each one a unique recording.

[–] 1 pt

Musicians used to shop the same song to multiple record companies too back then haha. It would have been pretty tough to know that another company put it out already so they’d go town to town selling their songs.

[–] 3 pts

Well, the word changing was appropriate.

I won't tell you my TSLA shares story. You're welcome.

[–] 3 pts

Many years ago, when digital currency was brand new, I was gilded and gifted 1 bitcoin for a smartass comment I made on reddit. I didn't have a wallet, or even understand what bitcoin was at the time, so I didn't do anything with it, and eventually forgot about it...till a friend pointed out a couple of years ago that 1 bitcoin was worth $30g. I went back and tried to find it. I guess it just disappeared.

[–] 3 pts

I mined like 24 of 'em when they were brand new. I had no fucking clue how to deal with the taxes so I gifted them to EFF when someone pointed out they were worth like $400 each. I was able to write that off, which made me happy. I'd actually forgotten about them and had to revive an older computer to get them back. Fortunately, they were in a wallet and I'd used a retardedly simple password that I use for unimportant shit. It was years after I'd mined them, so I was surprised I even still had the computer.

[–] 2 pts

It's at 48k but it hit 58k per bitcoin. I guess it's time for all the naysayers to admit they were wrong. It ain't going nowhere but up.

[–] 2 pts

Lol, what a hoot. It's like they say

How much is enough?
Just a little bit more.

[–] 1 pt

Satisfying.

Who needs that shit though?

All I need is a guitar and women.

[–] 1 pt

I know, right? I've never had money, and this late in the game, I'm pretty sure I never will.

Fwiw, I didn't know who Amber Heard (storage.googleapis.com) was till I started looking up pretty girls with three-syllable names to fit in the song. It came down to a choice between her or Megan Fox. (wonderwall.com)

[–] 1 pt

LoL I don't know who Amber Heard is either. I figured she had to be sexy as can be though.

And money isn't that important to me either, I've learned that I don't really need that shit except for to pay those who demand payment every month.

I have a very rich life if you keep score in love and not dollars, that's good enough for me!

[–] 1 pt

Great job on this tune, I've never heard it before. I might have to look Mr. Dudley up and see what else he's got. I very much enjoyed your cover.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks much! The original opening line was, "All I want is 50 million dollars"---an outrageous sum at that time. I had to bump it up a bit. And he wanted to own Western Union Cable, and have Rockefeller serving his food.

I first heard this song on Zorro and the Blue Football's debut album, but I just found last week that Tiny Tim did a cover as well.

[–] 3 pts

Hello and welcome to another FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

It has been a long week and this track has been a long time coming. We actually started working on this back in January. We've done this song before, but not completely - and nobody has done it like this.

If you're familiar with the song, listen with headphones (or good speakers) and pay attention not just to the foreground but to the background. It's Metallica, but it has been slightly modified and we think it's for the better. There's actually a lot going on in there and this track was quite a process to put together.

Without further ado…

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters (B #2 & B; J K; TB #1, 3, & P) (share.fngt.gq)

Damned right and please hold your applause until the end of the track. (It ain't ego, we know damned well that it's great!)

We are unlikely to be here late tonight. We're expecting to be here for just a couple of hours.

Rock on, poalr bears! Rock on!

[–] 3 pts

Great choice and sounds awesome!

[–] 2 pts

Thanks! Glad ya liked it. It actually had an unsatisfactory vocal track for a little while.

[–] 2 pts

As always, beautiful and precise. And as always, I'm jealous of your skills. One of these days, you're going to post something I cant resist, and I'll have to download and karaoke over it.

[–] 1 pt

I really want to hear a drawl'ed out version of Don McLean's American Pie. Like Randy Travis levels of drawl.

I've been picturing this in my head for decades.

[–] 2 pts

I can do Tennessee:

Bah bah missa merakun pah Dromuh chevy to thuh levee but thuh levee wuz drah

[–] 2 pts

Man alive that is tremendous. I miss these full tracks from you guys but I can see how hard it is to crank 'em out so I don't blame you from chillin' out from doing them.

[–] 1 pt

Glad ya liked it and they do take a ton of time. We just can't keep doing that every week without hitting the burnout point. We were getting close to being burned out, like really close. We were so close that there were some discussions about ceasing all involvement in the thread.

The break helped and we're going to keep taking it easy. We've got a ton of archived material that spans years, so we can keep doing that.

[–] 2 pts

I haven't heard this song in quite a while ... Excellent as usual!

[–] 0 pt

Glad ya liked it. We spent some time sprucing it up a little, making it a little bit more complex and textured. It was tempting to bring the background into the front, but this mix really worked with it. The background is best picked up on good speakers or quality headphones, but I think it's the best part of the mix.

[–] 1 pt

There's a lot of layers to this, all done well. The ladies are sounding as good as ever and of course your lead parts rock. I don't know the song but I really like this.

[–] 2 pts

It's a hell of a song, actually. Highly recommended that you check out the original. We've done a couple of the guitar parts before, with just BIff and I.

Is it safe to assume that you downloaded it and had a gander?

[–] 2 pts

Of course I did. I just woke up and now I'm fully up.

She's got legs
And she knows how to use them...

I didn't get the 19 reference though.

[–] 1 pt

We're headed out for the night.

We will be back around tomorrow.

[–] 1 pt

'night.

[–] 0 pt

Fuck yeah man! Awesome!

[–] 1 pt

When you get a minute, check it out with a good sound system or good headphones. Trust me on this one. We added some depth and texture but pushed it into the background. To really appreciate it, you'll want good gear. I'm pretty fucking qualified to offer said opinion!

And, you're so late that COF has already done the archives for the FNGT.

You made me look bad! I said you'd be here, 'cause you told me that you'd be here!

(I don't actually give a shit.)

[–] 0 pt

LoL I was planning on being here. I couldn't believe it was freaking midnight! Time flies when you're having fun!

[+] [deleted] 2 pts
[–] 2 pts

I might do this one night. Do you guys think you could cope with the embarrassment?

[–] 2 pts

We have REALLY low standards.

[–] -1 pt

Well I guess this isn't the place for me to swing my massive cock.

[–] 1 pt

Are there breasts and or boobs

[–] 2 pts

Well, my wife is here with me and we have been known to have female participants.

[–] 2 pts

Bare all

[–] 3 pts

Hmm... I'm not sure where it is.

This is where I'd normally share a picture of my nipple.

Sadly, this isn't the first time this sort of situation has come up.

[–] 0 pt

What do @TheBuddha and guitar players have in common?

they both enjoy fingering minors

[–] 0 pt

Who the fuck downvoted this?!?

Alas, I have but one vote to give.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks negress. It's a norm macdonald ripoff
