Me.
Well, they get tested before they're shipped, but I tested them and the lane markings. I used something called a reflectometer. I had one mounted to a Volvo wagon and drove slowly down the highway collecting data. I'd also check the signs but not all of them. The one for the signs was just a handheld unit.
If the road had a minimum speed, I had a police escort and sometimes a sign truck escort.
Amusingly, I was drunk for a lot of this. I'd be drinking and driving with a police escort. Ain't too many people that can say that!
That was my doing the data collection. Pretty much the most awesome job ever. As soon as I had enough employees and could do so, I moved on to do most data collection tasks.
Well all righty then. Thats funny that you would be drunk and have a police escort. reminds me when I was on bail for battery to a judge and every time I went to the courthouse I would have 4 cops escorting me, made me look important, I got moved to the front of every line LoL
There was almost always at least one cop involved in these sort of things. Often there would be two - one in front and one behind, plus a sign truck. We'd have frequent stops where I'd run out and scan a sign quickly. Sometimes we'd have a cherry picker and I'd measure the reflectivity of overhead signs - which often meant closing an entire lane of traffic.
You probably annoyed a whole lot of drivers with that
