Yeah, it's completely ridiculous.ost of the state now has decriminalized it locally and made it a $20 fine or less, but the county I am in still demonized it at recently lowered the fine to $625
When I moved to Maine, weed was still not legal - and was just barely legal for medical use. I got busted like 4 or 5 times. Like three of them were within the first year and the last two were a year apart. I called it my 'pot tax' and just paid the fine. The entire fine was like $372 - 'cause there's a 'victim's fee' involved.
Of all the busts, the first or second one was the funniest. I was too drunk to drive so someone else was driving me back home from the bar. This was in a Blazer that I'd use for playing in the mud and woods, and we'd torn the exhaust off that day. I'm busy explaining that I'm too drunk to drive when they noticed the bag of weed and pipe sitting on the dashboard. It was just sitting there in plain view. They charged the driver with transportation - like $110 fine and nailed me with the rest.
I was good humored about it.
At least the fines are not as expensive there as they are here
There aren't any fines now. It's perfectly legal - even for recreational use.
It was like $250 for > 1 oz and $75 for paraphernalia. Then there were a bunch of fees on top of it, so that it came out to like $372? I'm not quite sure, but it was under $400 and over $300 for both of them combined.
