Yeah I looked up buying a blank key replacement for my car and it says this

Item description Single Transponder Chipped Ignition/Doors UNCUT Master Key. Jaguar XK 2000-2006. Jaguar XJ 2000-2003. For JAGUAR. This key is compatible with all vehicles listed in our compatibility table above. NO self programming for this key, it will need to be cut & program to your car by certified LOCKSMITH.

It's a fairly modern (last 25 years) Jag. Of course it's gotta fancy key. Hell, GM's have all had fancy keys since 1995 - except for fleet vehicles. Fleet vehicles are absurdly easy to steal. I'm not kidding about just six key types for fleet Crown Vics - six fucking total key patterns and most fleet buyers just took the default key pattern.

It's also similar to military vehicles. Most of them don't require a key to start. (Are you really gonna risk a lost key in combat?) If they do require keys, they're all standardized. There's no key for a specific car/truck. It's one key and it starts all cars of the same kind or all trucks of the same kind.

So, how much was your replacement key gonna cost you for the blank uncut master key?

You should buy one. You should buy two, actually.

That's a fuck of a lot less than the locksmith will charge you. Then, you only need to pay to reprogram it and while they're doing one they can do the second one at the same time.

That's a great price. It's like 2k to replace a McLaren key. I don't think that covers the reprogramming. For that, I'd have to either ship my car to a McLaren dealer or ship a McLaren expert to my house along with their reprogramming computer.

You know, I'm not sure which of those is cheaper.
