He should hang out with my buddy. They can each have their 12 pack of beer beside 'em getting piss warm but not having to get up for more beer.
If he did the cooler thing, he'd have to be 'diligent' (for Verle, for any normal human it'd just be normal) about making ice - unless you have a fridge that makes ice. He could even use cold packs that get refrozen.
Also, I wouldn't tell him about the inbound hail. I'd wait to see if he let himself get caught in it and then I'd laugh and laugh at his dismay.
I'm kinda an asshole.
From my old Marine days, I know you can fit a 12 pack and a bag of ice into an M16's ammo can - and it'll stay cold for 24 hours. You can carry it around with you and nobody will be the wiser.
You'd be amazed what people out in the field will pay for a cold beer.
I bet those cold beers went over great after a long hike
Oh, fuck yeah... I wasn't 'in the field' with the recruits training, I was support. I drove supplies, most of the time. I also was in on the early HMMWV (Humvee) testing for the USMC, done in Quantico. So, I drove that around for a while. I had 'my own' that I drove for testing phase and testing live in the field.
For the sorry bastards out their humping their sack from hill to sandy hill, a cold beer is worth an awful lot.
Hell, this was my second time enlisted. I used to know the grounds so well that I'd drive off in my assigned vehicle and meet my wife just off the base. That's how I'd resupply my beer, sweets, chewing gum, cigarettes, etc...
A pack of cigarettes is worth $20 to the officer recruits. A beer was a steal at $5. If it was my last few, I'd make 'em pay $10 for a beer.
Welcome to the USMC, maggots!
I was not in training. I was supporting the trainees. I could bring all the cigarettes I could fit in my kit.
So you were driving around with beer and cigarettes and treats while all the trainees were wearing themselves out marching with heavy packs?
