Excellent. He always surrounded himself with top quality musicians, many famous in their own rights. The first time I smoked pot his first album came out and we listened to it several times in a row. His cynicism and sardonic wit shaped me into the cynical fool I became and I'm damn glad he did. I loved the way he could get away with insulting most of his audience and they ate it up. From Plastic People:
Take a day and walk around Watch the nazis run your town Then go home and check yourself You think we're singing 'bout someone else...
My older brother came home from Dallas for a visit. His car smelled like smoke, but not like cigarettes. He had an 8-track player, and Apostrophe and Overnite Sensation on tape. A marimba player in a rock band? I was hooked.
I love Ruth! She was so talented.
Every time I see her being interviewed, she just gushes over Frank. She gets this look of remembered bliss, like she had spent time in heaven and really wants to go back.
If you haven't heard You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore #2, you may want to. It was recorded in Helsinki in '74, and the band was at their peak. It's the same core band as on the One Size Fits All album.
