Hey guys, new here but heres my sloppy cover of "Everest" by All Them Witches

I've never heard the song before, so lack anything to reference it against. It was pretty smooth at about the 1 minute mark, moving up the frets from a pentatonic scale. Hmm... Been playing very long?

Here's the original song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFrayYYm1NQ

That big thud around the 1 min mark was my upstairs neighbor haha

I've been playing on and off for about 5 or so years. Learned thru youtube videos and learning songs I like.

[–] 1 pt

Nope. I guess I still haven't heard of 'em. Thanks for the link and thanks for sharing - and welcome to the thread.

We're here every week, though we're usually on time.

It was not my turn to open the thread, but here we are.

Great to see you here, sounds wonderful. Nice rich tone. Thanks for sharing and hope to hear more.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks! I gotta credit my tube amp for some of that tone lol

[–] 3 pts

I messed around with stuff and came up with this. It's a little longer than my usual, but at least it's better than tv.

[–] 2 pts

Trippy and parts of the guitar are more percussive than you normally are. It's like you were a half-step away from slapping the strings for part of it. On you down stroke marking the first beat, for part of it at least, it was pretty close to being percussive. That's not a bad thing. At around the 5 minute mark you almost sounded like you were headed into 'bitchin' solo' territory. You did not. Just a couple of runs. I'm a pretty big fan of the bitchin' solo.

[–] 2 pts

Thanks for the critique. I do that, I "finish" a song, and then sometime later someone points out, "Hey...you know what...". And I listen again and realize I left everyone hangin'.

[–] 2 pts

I was waitin' for that bitchin' solo.

Then again, I think pretty much every song on the planet could benefit with a bitchin' solo.

Here's one from my grandson. He's concentrating a little more on his vocals on this one. So here's G with .

[–] 1 pt

LOL Interesting that you say they concentrated more on their vocals. The consistency of the guitar shines through. In this case, the guitar is playing the same thing over and over - with consistency and (sometimes) with little relation to the vocals being sung.

(That's a compliment, even one of the highest order. 'Cause singing that way, with the vocals not in sync with the music you're playing, ain't easy.)

Nice work!

I'll be sure to let him know. Wish I could stick around longer but I'm really sleepy. I'll be back sometime to listen to the rest.

[–] 1 pt

There's a song that you have to listen to in the thread. I strongly suspect it was written specifically for you.

[–] 1 pt

Although, yes... Sleep well! Rest!

[–] 1 pt

Nice job G, thanks for sharing COF.

I didn't know they filmed my last recording session. An oldy but goody made me smile thanks

[–] 0 pt

Poor guy. He tried but that fucking guitar wasn't worth a fuck. Not his fault.

[–] 1 pt

Damn it I was all set to go and I forgot to push the button, here's a

[–] 1 pt

LOL will like that one - probably.

[–] 1 pt

Oh Lordy. How nice of you. I'm very grateful, thank you.

[–] 0 pt

Hope you enjoyed that little ditty!

[–] 1 pt

Well, it wasn't planned this was... So, I've opened the thread.

As such, have an old track that has only been shared once - but should have been shared a lot more often.

Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight:

Rock on!

[–] 1 pt

Nice. Goes to show it doesn't have to be loud and fast to be effective. The tone sounds spot on. Very relaxing.

[–] 1 pt

If you look at the era that's from, so much improvement has been made since then. Still, I think the ladies did a fine job when we consider their skill levels at the time.

It's also one of my favorite songs. I do a neat piece where I basically play all of it at once, with just one guitar, and Biff's a pretty big fan of that. I should record that version sometime. I pretty much play all of it, with two capos on the guitar at once. The D and G are on the 2nd fret and the E and A are on the 4th fret. I pick the notes while laying down the bass and rhythm at the same time. It's a lovely bit of complexity that only works if you've put a ton of hours into it.

Maybe I'll do a recording at some point. We shall see! Biff kinda thinks of it as 'her song', but it took years to master.

[–] 2 pts

Yeah, I remember when she was talking about that version you play. Figured it was a fingerstyle version. Had no idea you capoed two pair of strings. I'll bet it's real hard to play. I've seen a few fingerstyle versions of that song. They all sound so good.

[–] 1 pt

This song was always on our set list end of the night. a well lubricated crowd late night grind.. Nice job as always.

[–] 0 pt

Oh, it's a definite crowd please. If the audience seems to be enjoying it, you can even make it last for a few extra minutes - it's easy enough to stretch it out and have some fun at the end.

Glad ya liked it. We recorded it quite some time ago, but it had only ever been shared once.
