Yeah, that'd take a bit to learn. I'd start that with a metronome turned down and play it through until I got it right. Then, I'd increase the tempo until it was correct. I'd expect it to take a couple of hours before I could do a passable playthrough that met my standards. I'd expect a couple more hours, over a few days, to actually commit the song to memory.
I figured you would say a couple days not a couple hours that looks insanely difficult to me. At one point in the song he is tapping and picking at the same time.
I have the advantage of having already learned the techniques and practiced them for thousands of hours. At that point, it's more a matter of getting the timing right and getting the fingering correct. I don't have to learn how to tap, I need only learn where and at what tempo.
For a bad analogy, pretend I'm a carpenter...
I already know how to build a house. I have built houses with many different designs. The difference in building the next house is just where I hang the doors and windows. I don't have to learn to build a new house, I just need to build a different house.
When you get some basic chords down, and can transition between them smoothly, you'll discover the same thing. You'll no longer need to invest any new time in learning the chords, or how to switch between them. You'll just need to learn to put them together in a different pattern.
I think thats a pretty good analogy, somehow I don't think I'll ever be able to quite play this one. Maybe in 30 years but by then I'll probably have forgotten all about it. I'll keep practicing and get some lessons maybe I'll play enter sandman in a year or two.
