I haven't a clue, only thing I can think is he wanted someone outside his family
Yeah, and that can make sense with some families. Except, why would he not tell me?
If I had to guess - and I'm still guessing - he changed his will and forgot to tell me. I can't see him intentionally springing it on me by surprise.
Hell, if I was home I'd not even bother my lawyer for this. I've executed estates before. This is not my first rodeo. I don't mind doing it. It'd be easier if I was home.
He was getting up there in years. He was old enough that I kinda viewed him as a father figure. So, maybe he just fucking forgot?
Yeah he very well may have meant to tell you
I'm 99.9% sure he never told me.
I was completely shocked when I got a call from his daughter informing me that I needed to 'come over' and that I was expected to come over 'right now'.
(There's fuck-all for me to actually do, but they seemed to think I needed to be there immediately.)
I let them know that I was in Virginia for the winter, and calmed them down. I let them know that I had copies of a bunch of his important documents stored in a safe at my house. I had J open the safe and get out said documents. My lawyer grabbed them all around lunch time and can (hopefully) deal with this for me.
I'm willing to go back to Maine, but I'm not looking forward to it.
