Quick update:
I've heard from one of COF's relatives. At one point, he had his O2 levels down into the 70s! (It's usually like 98 or 100% saturation!) He is still very much alive, but has little energy, little lucidity, and little communication. He now has 24/7 nursing care.
I kinda wonder if maybe he's trying to make it through Christmas so that the family can celebrate and then grieve later? That sounds like something the stubborn old goat would try. Hell, he's made it through Thanksgiving and his birthday (that was in November, after turkey day). So, who knows what he's thinking?
But, he's alive. He's not 'alive and well'. He's just 'still' alive. It's a kinda limbo where we all know what the end is going to be.
Honestly, I hope he doesn't have to go through this much longer. Sure, he's drugged - but he's pretty much unable to control anything in his life.
I have heard anecdotes from somewhere in the past where a lot of older folks that are dying hang on through the Christmas holiday to allow the family to have a happy Christmas not having to grieve and then pass away shortly after that.
So that could be very likely.
70 percent oxygen levels certainly explains the lack of energy.
And yeah, that is really no way to live.
The verbiage isn't clear. I'm not sure if he turned his oxygen down, or if he something else meant he wasn't getting enough oxygen.
Oh ok, that was just a temporary low oxygen level. I hope he's comfortable
