It is what it is. It's actually worse when you're still learning your practicum. You'll be on-call/on-duty for days and sleep at the hospital when you can find room to sleep. That's after your 8 years in college.
Yeah I have heard of doctors residency crazy hours. It still is insane. Are there not enough doctors to cover all the shifts with reasonable hours where the doctor won't be overworked like that. The mistakes that can happen in that setting can be catastrophic
There's not only a shortage of physicians, it's intentional. We could make more doctors, but we limit the number made each year. I forget the name of the agency right now, 'cause I'm drinking wine pretty heavily. AMA? I think it's the AMA that sets the limits.
Yeah, it's the AMA... I think... Either way, they control the numbers. It's definitely intentional.
