Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Happy New Year all you guitar whizzes.

This is a Rolling Stones song.

It's a real good country blues type of song. The first and last verses are about somebody going away forever. So in honor of COF I did this song.

No Expectations (soundcloud.com)

[–] 0 pt

Awesome and you can be 100% sure that he'd have enjoyed it.

And, it sounds like one of those songs you can play with complete abandon and passion.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks. Stones did it a little better. Got real good slide guitar in it.

[–] 0 pt

It's all good.

As an aside, I will hopefully have the archives of all the FNGT tracks, There are some gems in there.

Same to you! Too bad it's not 1990!

[–] 1 pt

I so wish it was, much better times back then.

[–] 0 pt

LOL How goes it?

[–] 0 pt

Your wife was not even alive then!

[–] 0 pt

Good god no.

[–] 2 pts

Do you smell that? I smell it. What the the hell is that? It smells like something (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

Everyone likes a Nirvana song now and then!

[–] 1 pt

Heck yeah!

[–] 1 pt

I think we've got an instrumental cover kicking around somewhere.

Hi y'all. I hope everyone's ready for whatever the new year is gonna thrust upon us,

Here's one from a couple years ago.

Walkin' Shoes (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

That's got a nice bluesy riff to it. I like it. It sounds familiar, kinda.

[–] 1 pt

That's kick ass. ZZ Top would be proud.

[–] 1 pt

Cool man, I love the bite those 7th chords you were playing in there have. That sounds so crunky cool man. The slide work was sweet music to my ears

[–] 1 pt

Happy new years all!!!!! I wish you all the best!!!!

[–] 1 pt

Same to you! Stay safe out there this year.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks dude!

With all the recent happenings lately with death seeming to happen all over the place, I happened to come across this here song from the third anniversary of the FNGT in the archives and I showed it to Chris and asked him if he wanted to play it, and he said yeah. So we sat down and learned it and played it here last night while we were getting drunk and high. I think it might be an original but the voat user 'thesayso', I'm not sure. The youtube video it linked to says it is by Jake Grey. Anyways here is Chris and I playing Jake Grey's song Life Sucks, Then You Die (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

So true. I had a thought, that would be a good name for a band.

[–] 0 pt

I'm pretty sure that's not an original. It's from the mid 80s, as far as I know. I want to say it was "The Fools". It may have been played on Dr. Demento.

[–] 0 pt

I have no idea, I did look for it and I did find other songs with that same name but they have different lyrics. I don't have a clue

[–] 0 pt

Yeah, I ain't gotta clue and I'm kinda drunk... So... That's a lot of years ago...

[–] 0 pt

Hello and welcome to another FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

I take January off. This is always true and will always be true. That leaves @Crazy to open the threads. If you'd like to step up and open a thread, let us know. By now, you see what goes into it. 'Snot hard, it's just sometimes awkwardly timed. It opens at 20:00 Eastern US time, so...

COF has been laid to rest and the family is still coping. They'll have some paperwork and grieving left to do, but he has been laid to rest at a very lovely location.

I really miss the cynical old fart. I still sometimes see something and think, "Hey, it'd be fun to mention this to COF." Ah well...

That said, we have nothing new - but we have something that hasn't been shared a whole lot. It's a fantastic track, so here you go:

Rush - Tom Sawyer (EH G; J K, TB P & B) (share.fngt.gq)

That's my wife, in whom I am well pleased! She's been playing for a few years now. In another decade, she'll be pretty good! Anyhow, y'all haven't heard that one much.

Rock on, Poalr Bears! Rock on!

[–] 2 pts

Is she playing all the instruments?

[–] 1 pt

No, the missus is just the guitar. J is on keys. I do percussion and bass. Still, it's a nice and complicated guitar piece - especially for her experience level at the time.

[–] 2 pts

I was lucky enough to catch them live a couple of times, including their Moving Pictures tour. What a band!

There's a line in a Pavement song that goes:

"What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he talks like an ordinary guy?...I know him, and he does!"

[–] 1 pt

I've been to a few Rush shows over the years myself including the Signals tour, a couple weeks after seeing Van Halen on their Diver Down tour and in between those two shows Aerosmith Rock In A Hard Place tour. I had never been to a concert until the Van Halen one and then within three weeks time I saw Van Halen with Roth and Aerosmith on drugs and Rush then I bought myself a guitar

[–] 1 pt

Wow, that must've been a whirlwind to see so many greats in that time-span. If I didn't already have a guitar, I sure would've been checkin' em out!

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, I got to see 'em live but just a couple of times. They were a very polished band, which speaks to their skills. They would come really close to replicating their studio sound while in a live environment and with just three of them.

[–] 1 pt

Man alive you guys are great. She played the guitar amazingly. Lead too.

Drums are great. Seems like real difficult to play. I thought I heard like a high-hat tapping eighth notes while you were playing the drums. That must be tricky as hell.

[–] 0 pt

It's one of the more complex drum covers I ever do. The bass is also a bit of fun. The ladies pulled it together nicely, so that's good.

[–] 0 pt

That sounds so spot on. Man! Fucking awesome

[–] 0 pt

That one was a bit of work, as memory serves. It hasn't been shared much, maybe only once or twice. (I didn't check the archives. I'm going by memory.)

[–] 0 pt

I would imagine it would be a bit of work. Just getting those drum rolls down like that had to take some practicing
