Well here is hoping you are remembered. I used to want that. I used to have dreams about changing the world and making a name for myself. Then I grew up. I learned that some men are just here to do small things. I know only my kids and their kids will remember me 100 years from now but that'll just have to be enough.

I don't much care about "changing the world." Fuck that. I'm not changing anybody. If I change something, I'm responsible for it. Y'all are on your own. Don't look to me for answers. Nope...
But, I will leave a mark. I don't care if I have to blow off a side of a mountain. I'll leave a mark.
I've chosen to leave a smaller mark than blowing off the side of a mountain. I have friends willing to help, but they tell me that it's a stupid idea. Not that they're not willing to help, but that I'll probably get in a lot of trouble - even if I own the mountain. Horrible, really. It's mine. I should be able to blow it up if I want to.
However, they're not gonna let me and just doing it anyhow is a whole lot worse.

Well I left my mark already my kids are my mark. If its not too personal I ended the cycle of horrible fathers and broken families that has followed my family for 2 generations. Thats my mark. If you want to blow the side off a mountain I think its a great idea I'll help imagine what you might find. Gold, silver, treasure you have no idea what could be in there before you look! Oh, I've left lots of marks. It's not even about being remembered so much as it is about history. It's not totally about my name, it's about these events need to be remembered. Future historians are gonna need them. (Well, probably not mine - but just in case.)
I've got a Ph.D in the STEM field. In order to get our doctorate, we must do new research that "forwards the art" and is sound. It's also supposed to be useful. So, I've got published research. I've got time as a freelance journalist. I've got lots of journals, both research and personal, going back decades.
I have kids but my kids too awesome to have come from me. LOL Somehow, despite my best efforts, they're health and productive adults - they're even happy. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but they have done well.
Your eldest is 7, right?
And nothing is too personal with me. I'm pretty much exactly what you see. Judge away. I'm happy with who I am. Your history does explain your views a bit. A lovely family is awesome.
If I can give some unsolicited advice:
Don't let that family slip away. I've seen it before. It takes work, love, and dedication. But, it's lovely when they grow up healthy, happy, productive, and loving you in return. I still beam when my daughter hugs and kisses me, then bitches about my hair and beard. ;-)
I don't see them enough, which kind of sucks. But, that's the way life goes and they have their lives to lead.
