And, there's nothing really wrong with drinking - it's drinking to excess that the Bible forbids (depending on which verses you go by). If you can't drink without drinking to excess, then you probably shouldn't drink.
Also, back then the water was unsafe to drink (much of the time). So, beer and wine were safe(r) to drink. Germs don't survive well in an alcoholic environment.

It's the Bible. There are verses for and against it. It's a rather inconsistent book and can be interpreted to say most anything you want it to say. That's one of the reasons I can't possibly be a Christian. I can't be a Christian because I've read the Bible.
