Young is good. Almost the younger the better, though I'd probably not try to seriously teach a student until they were 8 (some kids sooner, some kids later). I've done my share of formal teaching for money, a couple of times right out of a guitar store booth.
Now's a good time to show them that they don't have to press hard on the frets. The lighter they can press on the frets to make a note ring true, the better. Learning a light touch now will save a couple of years of fixing it later in life. Pretty much everyone I hear without formal instruction is pressing the frets too hard - and I'm guilty of doing so myself.
It's easier to learn good habits than it is to correct bad habits. <-- That's very important.
Cool man. You got the next SRV on your hands
