Friend of mine, great guitarist, in the most popular band in Houston back in the 70s.
Shot and killed himself on his birthday, cause he "was supposed to be a star by then."
SMH. An uplifting story. Not.
Most musicians are not sane people. The creative types, especially those who are obsessed enough to actually get good with their instrument, are quite frequently found with mental health issues.
I've been playing for more than five decades and performing for the overwhelming majority of it. I've played with people across this country and in many other countries. Many, many musicians have mental health issues. They're bat-shit crazy, as a general rule.
Finding the sane and stable ones is the key to having a functional band - and even then it's no guarantee - and then look at all the dysfunctional bands out there.
We're here every Friday.

The guy who killed himself had a band with this lead singer.
