I don't think it is a mountain though it does rise above the surrounding landscape quite formidably.

That is not a mountain
It doesn't look very mountain-like, but I don't want to hurt its feelings. It definitely stands out against the surrounding terrain, so I give it credit for trying hard.

I live just about where the arrow is. Rangeley is down around the edges of the lake, mostly. You can't really see it from there. That's over on Rt. 17 on the "Height Of The Land".
Those look more like mountains that that picture I sent you. I can see that you would have some drastic elevation changes driving in that terrain. The 'mountain' in this area is really just a monadnock
Nice. That's a new word to me.
And, yeah, we have some pretty solid elevation changes. I'm pretty sure all these qualify as mountains, according to the technical definition. So, I'm pretty solidly in the mountains.
Your ears will likely pop before you get here and then not pop again until you leave. Once in the village area, people tend to stay right in that general area - around the lakes. Your ears won't pop going from the village to my house, though there's quite an elevation change. At least mine don't. There's about a 1700' difference in height between my house and the center of the village. The small airport is a few hundred feet higher than the village.
As you can guess/see, there's a lot of elevation changes.
