It has brakes that kinda work and the transmission doesn't free-wheel, so you've got engine braking. You just need to be careful with your brakes - don't ride them and let them cool off a bit before using them again. So, you're slowing down below the speed you want to go and letting speed build before braking again.
You'll be alright.
LoL I don't know how steep the mountain road is, but man if the brakes were to fail that would be a wild ride
It's pretty steep and fairly long. You're mostly going downhill for like 10 miles. It's uphill out of the village and downhill back into it. Even though the village is mountainous, the "Height of the Land" is higher than it is - by quite a wide margin.
You could have probably got that thing to go faster than the 45 mph top speed if you chose on the way down
