The Gibson SG is a Les Paul... They just took the name off when the contract ended - at Paul's request, so the story goes. It's the Gibson Les Paul Solid Guitar.
The SG is a Les Paul as a GTO is a Tempest
It bore the Les Paul name until 1963, sometimes into late 1963 depending on when Gibson got rid of their on-hand stock.
Hell, it still carries the Les Paul variants - Junior, Standard, Special, Custom...
So, the guitar in question - specifically a 1961 Special - is indeed a Les Paul. You could argue that it was no longer a Les Paul after they took his name off of them. But, this is an example from 61 - so there's no debate.
