Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

It's absolutely okay to take more lessons. I've attended multiple 'masterclass' types of lessons and even taught a number of students who had already played guitar for years.

The key is to tell the instructor what it is you want to learn, that is what it is you want to get out of your lessons. They should then be able to give you a lesson plan, meaning letting you know what and how they're going to teach you. If they don't have a formal lesson plan after you've told them what you need, run away - find a better teacher.

I've thought about giving lessons online, but I really don't need the money - plus I have pretty shitty bandwidth.

This is exactly what I have in mind, and have for decades (had it in mind) lol. Used to hear about people paying some guy to just show them exactly how to play "Hot Blooded" or something. Of course you know what I'm talking about.

Honestly I feel a little disingenuous because some part of why I like to play and sing is to impress people, I know that sounds shallow but just being honest. Probably normal though.

Yeah you'd be great on youtube, and you have a teacher's heart, that's rare when it also comes with talent.

I have been hired to teach someone a single song. That's usually longer and more expensive than people think, and entirely the wrong way to go about it. Instead, it'd be easier and faster to just show them the various techniques and reasons for them, and letting them figure the rest out on their own.

I have actually taught a bunch. I was even a professor (mathematics) for a couple of years post-retirement. I figured teaching was giving back to the art.

Hell, to this day I write an article every other day helping people learn how to use Linux, I'm on the Lubuntu development team, and I'm a moderator at linux.org. So, I do a lot of teaching. I like keeping my days full of activities, 'cause I suck at retirement.

I'm steppin' out for a while. Really appreciate the back and forth, very much.

That's amazing. Lemme ask you this...how do you stay away from 'substances'?

I've had trouble off and on for years (not alcohol) nothing really life threatening, but darn sure took away motivation.

You sound extremely motivated, I've got to get back that way again, I'm in my mid sixties now and I'd like to do something productive before it's over, like a book. I used to do copywriting and ghostwriting.

But damn, I'm taking Kratom and it's zapping me of motivation, I'm just bad that way, hard to get off. I'll do it though.

Oh well. You've really got something to be proud of, what you've done. Imagine a 9 - 5 thing all your life, yuck.
