Don't blame me. I don't make the rules - or the instruments!
I want to say I've even seen an 8 string, but can you imagine how expensive a set of strings would be?!? Fortunately, it's a bass - so they'll last forever and a day.
Do you go for smooth-wound strings? I love 'em on a bass, but I really haven't been able to get into bass since my last all-bass recording. I'll play if I have to. I did a lot of filling in on bass when I did a daily lunch gig at a jazz club. That made me appreciate the bass a bit more, and learn things like slap bass.
I like flatwounds, but for the music my band plays the sound isn't suitable for most songs, and I don't wanna switch between basses constantly. I use nickel roundwounds, and turn the treble very low. Neck pickup only.
--since I will never be able to slap like Davie 504, I never 'slap'. Do it right, or not at all, I say.
-Charles Berthoud vids are the opposite of inspiring, he makes me wanna quit.
That was the word I was looking for while drinking heavily last night. It was a day full of races, including the Bathurst 1000.
A quick look via Google says I have never heard of said Davie404, but I may take a few minutes to check out their work.
Davie 504 is a Italian bassist that makes a lot of videos. A lot is 'funny' crap, but he is an incredible player. Huge hands!
Charles Berthoud is the most astonishing bassist I ever heard, apart from MonoNeon.
