I mostly wanted a smart gate. I wanted to gate my driveway and then give out RFID containers to let people in, while also having timers and a live video feed of a camera on the gate as well as voice capabilities.

I bought a bunch of Raspberry Pis to make it myself, but I realized that was way more fucking effort than I was willing to put into it. I ain't coding that. I don't even like programming!

It might be now, but I haven't seen it. It seems likely that it could be mostly be put together with COTS solutions. I've done some digging but never found quite what I want - mostly 'cause the smart stuff is just doors. I want it to apply to a gate. That seems easy enough to adjust, it's just motors and servos at that point. But, yeah... Nothing quite matches.

Like, I want UPS to be able to open the gate when I'm expecting a package - and that's it. I want to be able to give an RFID card to contractors and it only works from 9 to 5 on Monday through Friday. My son should be let in no matter what. Things like that...
