I don't think I went to nursery school, as I don't remember that ant song at all. We were too busy with band practice and shows back in my nursery school age days.
I think I like the rendition the original way better.
I like the punk version quite a bit. At one point in time, I was a member of the Boston punk scene, which is where these fellas are from.
I like how it starts off and then just kicks you in the teeth.
The bit at the end where the grandmother (judging by age) takes the toy gun away reminds me of a scene from my childhood.
When I was about 7, I traded a neighbor kid (conned, really) a shitty pair of roller skates for a BB gun.
When I brought the BB gun home, my mother yanked it from my hands - but then she took it and slammed the butt on the ground, stepped forward, kicked it up behind her, and then proceeded to twirl it like a pro. She tossed it up in the air, caught it, and snapped to attention to finish off her twirling.
(My family was big in marching bands, which have traditionally had rifle twirling.)
She then took said BB gun away from me and I never saw it again. I never did find out what happened to it. When I was 12, I got a .22 and .410 over/under. So, I guess I was old enough to have a real firearm then.
I thought you were going to say your mom broke it right there in front of you!
The Dropkick Murphys version isn't bad, its just that opera guys version is so powerful
Yeah, their version is just my second favorite. The first is definitely my favorite. I'd say my third favorite would probably be Joan Baez. She did a pretty good version, with a great deal of emotion.

I think she might have done that before the Benjamin Luxum fella did it.
SOOOOOOOOOO many people have covered this song in one form or another.
