better do a lot of business to cover those costs

You can also sell rights to use said patents. China's eventually gonna try to copy it, but this might be hard for them to break into the business. It's a large physical product when it's a gate. They're not gonna ship that.

You could (and probably should) tie it in with an online service. Even though it wouldn't likely technically need it, you can stream the video through your online servers and let them control the devices through your online services. That should keep China at bay.

I don't see why not. Want a package delivered to your garage? Give UPS a card with an RFID chip and automatically turn the cameras on to watch 'em. Wanna know if your wife/kid came home late? Check the logs. Want your neighbor to be able to come borrow some tools on Saturday? Give 'em a card and only let them in on those specific days and automatically turn the cameras on.

All sorts of fun ways to play it.
