Yeah I did notice that he changed tempo's along the way.

Yeah, it wasn't consistent and the count in was all sorts of fucked which drew my attention to it. It was like he started on the 2nd beat as the down beat and then worked from there.

It could just be they're rusty and need to knock the scales off. It wasn't otherwise all that terrible.

I did not even notice the count. Might have something to do with playing my drums

Maybe? I dunno and can't really speculate except to say it might improve. I'd just wait patiently to see if it improves over time. If not, you could call their attention to it and suggest they practice with a click track, a metronome, or backing tracks.
