The battery replacement will get old having to do that every so many years I would think

Not really. Teslas from 2010 are still running just fine, with about 85% of their battery life.

You get a lot of bullshit media, but I researched it thoroughly before buying one for my daughter.

So far, her car has cost her nothing other than charging. Not one lick of maintenance. Not even tires or brakes.

There's no oil change. There's no coolant to add. You just drive it and keep it charged.

The myths about the longevity are just myths. There are people who have put 500,000 miles on their Teslas and still have 85+ the original battery capacity.

What IS a kinda concern is the cold weather. When it's cold, I'll only get about 80% of the range.

However, the range for a Tesla is such that that wouldn't bother me. I could easily make a trip into Augusta and back without needing to charge a damned thing.

There's a lot of bullshit about EVs, but they really are ready for the prime time - for the VAST majority of people. You? You'd be a perfect candidate for an EV. Do you REGULARLY drive more than 350 miles in a day? (That's discounting the range due to the cold.)

Hold on... Let's do some math...

Let's assume batteries are only good for half the miles - 250,000...

How many miles do you drive in a year?

Divide that number by 250,000 (a very false premise).

Yeah, that's how long an EV will last. It'll really last more than twice as long, but let's pretend all the numbers are a lie and only 50% honest...

There are multiple examples over 500,000 miles from just Tesla alone.

You will face issues over time, but they're still getting 85% (and that's me using the LOWEST number) of their original capacity.

Even if you did replace batteries after that long, people don't own their cars that long. In the used market, you'll still get another seven or so years of lesser capacity.

Even with the lesser capacity, you're still talking a range of 300+ miles on a single charge.

How often do you drive more than 300 miles in a single day?

Not very often... When you need to, you take a train, a bus, or rent a gasoline powered car - or charge once (about 30 minutes with fast charging) and nearly double that mileage in a day.

Seriously, the bullshit surrounding EVs is just plain fucking retarded.

I've done the real research. I freely admit the problems we have with EVs.

Also, for the record, our grid can handle it just fine - with a slight improvement. You need to charge your vehicle, as an average, at night. That's not universal and it doesn't mean everyone has to, but doing so means your car becomes a part of the smart grid.

Imagine instead of your power going out, your car kept your house powered. You can do that. Your car would hold about a week's worth of energy.

Now, the 99% group isn't going to use their cars to capacity. It's not like everyone's going to suddenly start driving 350 to 425 miles a day. They're gonna drive the 23 average miles they normally drive.

EVs are fucking brilliant - in many ways. Coal fired plants electricity plants need to die in a fire - but, even then, the efficiency of scale means the EV is smarter.

I'm not kidding. You would do just fine with a bottom-most model of Tesla. That's like 245 miles per charge. It charges to 85% full in about 15 minutes. So, you could even do long trips - made easier with more charging stations, but we have enough saturation. We have far more charging stations than we had 20 years in with gasoline pumps. So, we're already way ahead with that.
