I usually recommend that people learn on an acoustic - but there's electrics that'll suit and be within a decent budget.

It's really a varied question and my stock answer is, almost inevitably, "Ibanez." It's pretty hard to go wrong with an Ibanez and, if you do, they have a great warranty process. There's also Yamaha - which is so overlooked it's not even funny. The two guitars you heard in that track are both classical guitars.

They're the GC models, made in very different years. The GC is the Grand Concert. It's booming and what lovely tones it produces. I had three but I now have two, as the eldest has claimed one for her own. Somehow, and she's oblivious to the price, I agreed that she could have a $2,500 guitar.

She's also eying a collectible Les Paul ('57 Sunburst) and a PRS Private Stock. Neither of which is going to happen! They're each worth more than a really nice used car.

The good news is that she's working at the farm and she's working shows with us, learning to do lights and sound. So, she doesn't have any real expenses and she can put the money into an account at the credit union. Then, she can save up and buy her own damned guitars.

I treat 'em like I treat my own family. I'll help, but y'all gotta put the effort in. Both my kids have trust funds that absolutely would pay them to do nothing. It'd just pay them very, very poorly. They'd have enough to survive but they'd not be having much fun. So, my kids work for a living.

That’s good you didn’t just hand your kids wealth, I’ve seen that work out poorly many many times. I wish I had a better understanding of which guitars are impressive and which are not. I’m sure I will in some indeterminate amount of time. I have an affinity for Yamaha as a brand, I’ve had several of their motorcycles, my 82 maxim 650 was quite an impressive machine I beat the piss out of it and it barely needed matinence and ran for almost 6 years before I sold it for more than I bought it for. 400$ and it was shaft driven. So I’ll probably look at Yamaha guitars, maybe I can find one used from someone that’s giving up on learning ;). Good luck with the show.

There's an article publishing on Monday that may interest you.

I never say what's scheduled, however. ;-)

Well good monday is going to suck. So at least I've got that to look forward too.
