I was thinking if a cop pulled up while we were going around the block that he might think that we are there to pick up the driver and get him away from the scene so he can call his truck in stolen at a later time

That'd really suck. Though it should be fairly easy to show you're innocent - but it means letting them look at your phones to verify that nobody called you from the dude's cell phone number.

But, you'd still have to interact with cops. It's just not worth it.

Yeah, that's nothing I want to deal with. They guy may have been able to get his truck loose eventually and got away for all I know

If it were out on an old snowy road, I'd have stopped. Hell, I'd have pulled 'em out of the ditch, assuming I was driving something that could do so.
