I am not sure that's really Pantera putting on a show, its like a Pantera tribute band or something, right?
Well, that's a tough nugget to crack and quite a debated topic.
A couple of people are the same. Two of them are not. They perform Pantera's songs under the Pantera name.
Nobody thinks it's the original band, but they are technically Pantera - including a legal right to continue with the name.
So, I'd say it's something we could debate until the cows come home.\
Was it still Fleetwood Mac after Green left? How about when McVie was in the band - or when she left or when she returned?
So, I'd say it's kinda a tribute band - but there are still early members so they're legally Pantera 'cause that's their business name.
To me, it's one thing when its a band like Ozzy, where it doesn't matter who is playing along with him as long as they can play. Fleetwood Mac was kind of la little bit like that where if the Fleetwood and McVie are playing they are the band leaders so it is still their band no matter who is playing with them. But when its a band like Pantera where Dimebag and Vinny were really the leaders of the band, when they are not there, thats why, to me it feels like a tribute
I dunno, Vinnie was the drummer with no writing credits and Dimebag only played guitar - but does have some writing credits.
I think it can be viewed as either way.
Like, was it the Grateful Dead when Hart left and they hired a new drummer? How about when Lisa was with them and left with Mark? Or, when Hart came back and they had two drummers?
I'd definitely not credit Vinny as a leader. He was just the drummer and not even all that great.
So, I suppose folks can argue it either way. I'd say it's up to those who hold the naming rights to decide if they're still Pantera or something else.
Or, then, there's GWAR - which regularly rotates people. I don't believe GWAR has any original members.
There's even some talk of keeping the KISS business running with touring musicians - none of whom would have been in the original KISS.
