I once came across a detour out of Buffalo, NY. It was in the direction I wanted to go, so I went that way. I was headed to Pennsylvania, ideally without hitting a major highway, more or less for fun and to test my sense of direction. (Drugs and alcohol were a factor.)
So, I followed this detour... And I followed this detour... And, eventually, it just stopped. There were no more detour signs. It never said the detour was over, it just stopped. For the life of me, I have no idea what I was making a detour around. I never found anything closed to traffic. I never found the end of the detour. It just vanished...
I was drunk and high on opiates, but I'm 100% positive that I didn't miss it. I wasn't that fucked up at the time.
Maybe some juvenile delinquents were having some fun and taking detour signs down!
Maybe? There was a ton of road work going on in the area, with adequate signage at that. It's NY. They do signs right. They have some of the best signage in the country.
Yes, these are the weird things I know 'cause of my career...
Georgia is hands-down the worst. They try hard, but then they try hard...
I do know that driving in Atlanta is a nightmare at 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I never had any other problems driving in Georgia. When I went to New York I just took a taxi
