I think it correlates with some sort of "party like there's no tomorrow" kind of trend rather than some national nervous breakdown

But that doesn't explain the very odd inversely proportional ratio vs "rest of the world" circa 1920. It's a symmetry; france is as high as the rest is low

Maybe everybody came to france to drink during the 20s idk

Yeah probably a mix of partying it up and drowning out the horrors of WW1. That war would really suck to be in.

WWI was an abomination, literally a crossover between polo and rugby with machine guns and artillery
