Regardless of what your fetish is, normal or abnormal, talking about them at the family dinner table is weird and wrong and just plain unsettling. That his fetish is something so degenerate just paints his actions as either a subtly self-aware cry for help or, more likely, a degenerate seeking attention and validation. That we are supposed to believe that his family was accepting of all this as he began listing the objects he's inserted into himself tells me the story isn't even true, or at least the part where he was accepted isn't, so that slides it more into the 'look at me' camp.
