I have seriously never heard about Pop! and system76.
I only tried it in a VM, because I'm looking for a lightweight OS for an old PC turned into a media-server and retro-games station.

Is there any reason for a retard like me to use a distro other than Mint?
I'm smart enough to hate windows, but I really only use my computer for writing/shit-posting/watching an occasional movie
I tried mint on it already and it's pretty smooth. Just wanted to give a try to alternatives.
If I remember correctly, POP started out as being intended to be used mostly in Education, System76 has been around forever and at some point made it their default (and I think they sponsor the project as well).
I just use Mint even on my new desktop. It still works well on my old stuff. I have a really old Dell XPS laptop (i5) and it does what I need. If I felt like I needed it to work a bit better/faster I would have the WM changed over to either XFCE or LXDE like I mentioned above.
