Some electronics such as energy meters or car thermometers can only display “.0” or “.5” behind the decimal, instead of every digit.

What a waste of screen space.

I like watching them flicker between them.

Its like magic

Ah, yes!

I have subconsciously noticed that funny flickering too.

Does it flicker if you don't look at it...

It appears more flickering in the corner of the vision, if it is a LED segment display.

You get what you pay for. Most people are fine with one decimal place, but the people that need more accurate measurements probably need them to be a lot more accurate, which make them a lot more expensive.

  • It often is just laziness by manufacturer.
  • Many cars have .0/.5 thermometers, despite the manufacturer could have added an accurate thermometer for a few extra euros/dollars/pounds/etc. out of the e.g. €20000.

Better than no digit behind the decimal at all, but if one puts a digit behind the decimal in their measurement device, at least make good use of it!
