Twenty years ago the internet was still flooded with porn, if anything there was even less control. Anyhow, her ex clearly did this to take revenge, I doubt he would have decided not to if reddit didn't exist. This kind of thing is always going to be a problem on any site with user posted content. If she's serious about stopping this she needs to call the police on her ex and take him to court. If she's not then this is just a cashgrab.
