He did say sorry last time. So, he has that going for him.
That was the root cause of the downtime that prompted you to make Poal.
Tons of people were running around certain that their wild speculations were factual. I 'member, 'cause I got to tell them that I told them so. Voat's symptoms then were clear enough that I was really confident that the most probable reason was a disk space error.
Also, he's on some Azure cloud hosting stuff. I've never used it - but I can almost guarantee that there's an automated function to expand the disk space available. They're not using physical hard drives - they're using virtualized disk space. I know this to be true without even looking. Even the shittiest VPS provider on the market is moving towards virtualized disk space, or already there. I know damned well Azure has to already be there - otherwise they'd be using dedicated servers.
At the same time, I can understand Putt's probable frustration. The Qtard infestation was terrible for the site and, as a free speech site, he can't just realistically kick them out. Since they arrived, along with the PG ilk, things have gone steadily downhill - both in quality of content and site performance.
For a short while, I almost tried to drive 'em to Poal but I decided I like you better than that.
You should be aware that they have a link in v/QRV that says something like "In case of emergency, break glass." It leads to a QRV sub here.
Sorry gotta call bullshit on that one. He didn't apologize for that one until long after I founded poal.co. He did eventually but it took quite a while. I'm not gonna be an asshole and dog pile on the guy but he is not the quickest to apologize or explain what is going on.
The root cause of me making poal wasn't voat being down it was his attitude towards the site that the down time followed. You either love what you do or you don't do it. I'm not gonna fault the guy at all he kept it going for fucking years but it sure seems like he doesn't love it anymore. I have no beef with the guy at all he has more than done his part.
On the azure thing all the more reason there should not have been any down time but I don't think voat uses azure anymore I think they moved off of that when their student stuff ran out.
You could have we could have handled it. I've had quite a few private conversations with some of their big users about them coming to poal.
I know they do. Trust me I got this. See the thing here is if we need a new way of dealing with things we figure it out. It doesn't matter what it is we will find a way. Its why I am here every single day. AOU is here every single day. I've spent 2 years doing a podcast where people bring up issues they have with the site. I care about this site I want it to be a place where anyone can say what they want. I've literally spent thousands of dollars on it. I've put an insane amount of hours into it and so has AOU. We actually give a fuck and at the end of the day I know this isn't ever going to be profitable really. That is okay. Its about the speech not the money.
Umm... I'm really confident he apologized in the very announcement post he made when the site came back online? I could dig it out of the archives, but that'd be way more effort than I want to invest.
Well I Know for a fact that announcement post came after I founded poal. I know he did, and he apologized to me personally later. It still doesn't change what happened and what made me think damn someone needs to do something.

Cool. But, they wont be able to stifle dissenters or create this site into their boomer echo chamber.
yes we can deal with the qtards
