How many people have that much storage? Thats a lot of storage for the average person. I have multiple servers and don't even have that much.

That's part of my point. Even major tech people aren't going to have 50+ TB of storage available to hold such a thing. Also, 52 TB is not likely to be built on NAS or other consumer level arrays. This is more like SAN and other large, scalable storage solutions. This is not the kind of thing a regular user does. Also, he's going to host a magnet for it. WTF? That's going to be some serious bandwidth utilization and his server(s) will be quite busy serving up bits. This is not the kind of thing even power users do. Seems very suspect to me.

Dude I'm 100% in your camp on this one, I have 5 servers and I think I am topping out at 36 I might be able to pull 40 out of my ass if I pulled all my hardware out and installed it. 52 plus what you need to actually do your own stuff that is insane.

Exactly! This would not only be costly, it would also be crazy. The whole thing is beyond what most people could do without some major money, time and expertise. From the way the post reads, it seems like Virge has been crawling search engine indexes with some bot/crawler and storing the internet in text form for 27 years. Why would anyone just decide to do that unless they had some agenda. 27 years ago none of us thought that we would ever need to have a backup of the net due to censorship or authoritarian control over it. His motives for this seem like something one would do if they were part of that censorship or control. Virge claims to be wealthy (he's said it a number of times and spoke of his expensive vehicles). He also deletes his history so I can't point to proof at the moment. How wealthy is he and how unhinged is he? This makes no sense, unless he's just lying again.
