It was a time when, almost literally, there were no women on the internet and those few were fairly cool. For the most part though, there was no race, religion, sex.. Etc. Was just a group of people learning, teaching, goofing off and having fun. If people wanted to group up then they did. Go do your thing. Live and let live. Now it's "you must submit", just like irl.

You mean like 1200 baud dial up to the local BBS?

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

There are still some up and running, still active posting and door games going on. Mostly through telnet, but also some rare hardcore dial-ups out there too.

There was talk of a Poal BBS at one point in time, but those plans fell through.

yeah like in 2002 when everyone didn't want to fuck the users over for every little thing. After that it was the RIAA getting traction and then even windows in Vista added scanning for copyright files and it was slow as shit with that and an antivirus.

Used to play chess and talk to people all the time, played in fake worlds where you could build shit and interact with people all around the world. Hell I was even a PK in one for awhile til oldirtybastard ruined it. Even met a few when they traveled around irl. It aint what it used to be.

Where was I for happy fun time?

[–] 3 pts

Yes, but to fair, I was a child then.

What happened to you? heh

I made the terrible decision to grow older and expose myself to how the world is. Don't age if you can help it.

well, its a bit to late for that now. Actually mentally Im still young, but I have heard drugs do that when imbibed at a young age.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Goat.cx that address I had to watch for at the bottom left of browser on forums before clicking a link.

Lighthearted? Can't say I agree with that. I wouldn't even use the term lawless.

There has always been a strong sense of conformity to 'the rules", though those rules used to be more about common sense and staying in line with the spirit of the medium, which was generally set by individuals who were higher minded than the reset of us. Break one of the rules and you were at risk of quickly and firmly being ostracized.

I'll be frank, that system worked well enough for me. The current internet is one that panders to the LCM and is a waste of time and energy for the most part. It's like trying to have a conversation with retarded children.

It definitely used to be far more entertaining though. Now the edgy, fun stuff is rare. People are too scared to say what they really think. Losing my job because I told a joke at the expense of dumb niggers is not worth it.
