I do. It was awful. Very clunky and very dirty. I had to clean it often, which was annoying as hell. Also wired only, which was also annoying if you had little space on the table. Modern mouses are a tech wonder, kids don't know how much they have evolved.

A is different than a ball mouse. A trackball is a device where you roll the ball with your fingers or your thumb.

You're talking about non-optical mice, and yeah, they were a hassle. Their rollers always got gunked-up.

The first optical mouse I ever used was on a SUN workstation back in the early 90s. You had to use a special metal mousepad that was covered in dots that it used to detect motion.

But you could take the balls out and throw them at people. That was neat.

The annoyance of dealing with an unresponsive ball mouse has been replaced with the annoyance of dealing with a selectively reliable Bluetooth mouse. Both create rage-inducing hiccups that make gaming terrible.

I would go back to wires but they are all over my work space

"Fun" tech story. Was working in HS as a PC repair tech. Got a call from a little old lady that her "the clicky thing" (mouse) didn't work. Okay, I can look at it.

Get to her house, place smells like a sewer. Crazy old cat lady. Try not to breath and/or vomit. Get to her computer desk, and sure enough the mouse isn't working. The trackball was stuck on something inside the mouse. Remove the ball.... cockroaches. At least ten cockroaches come crawling out of the mouse. OhFuckThis.gif

I apologized to the woman that I cannot fix her issue and that she can buy another one at KMart.

I once had a date and her home had an awful smell too. I've spent all the evening thinking about that smell and left as soon as I could.

Dated a girl in college that was a crazy cat lady. Seemed normal no piss smell. Then visited her house. There was a "cat rescue room" in the basement. 10-20 cats crammed into a 10x10 room. Worst smell I have ever smelled. I excused myself and went back to my apartment. Then drank heavily and went to bed.

It's unbelievable this kind of crazy people exist.

Before the date I used to think this people existed only in movies.

they were great for some vidya games...oh you mean the mouse with the little track ball...they'd collect dirt and cat hair...

Yes, track ball mouse would gunk up in two inner spots usually and have to unscrew the bottom, release the ball and wipe off those spots inside

Yeah, we had big 3" balls for tracking in sonar systems.

Umm, that comment came out badly but I can't think of a better way to phrase it.

So I remember the ball mice and yes, they were annoying as hell

I moved up in the world to a real trackball mouse in 2007. It was a logitech marblemouse and that thing was awesome but still wired. You moved the ball with your pointer finger and used your thumb as left click.

After that I got another trackball mouse in 2011 called a logitech m570 which was a low latency wireless trackball mouse but now the ball was moved by your thumb.

In 2018 i finally moved back into the world of wired mice and needing a mousepad with my logitech proteus g502 and have been very happy with that since.
