To play Telephone:
Gather a medium sized group of people, say a dozen or so, and seat them in a ring, all facing each other.
One person selects a sentence of moderate complexity to transmit to the group. The game begins when that person whispers the phrase in the ear of someone next to them. That phrase is then repeated by whisper to the next person in the ring, until it is finally repeated out loud to the originator.
What often ensues is a hilariously different phrase than what was originally whispered.
The game is won if the group can successfully repeat the sentence around the entire ring.

Many years ago, and many more games back from the time when "phones" meant the landlines.

Once when I was little. I suspect some of the kids were making alterations on purpose for the lulz.

There's a funny iteration of this game called telestrations

You get a word Draw a picture of it Then pass The next person writes down what they think they're looking at Then pass Then the next person draws that Next person writes down what they think they're looking at Etc, all the way down

What comes back at the end is often so funny your abs hurt the next morning

I played it once. Our principle started as the King of England, and ended as the queen. I don't think the corruption of the original message was by accident.

They call it Chinese whispers here.

There was a silent agreement for the last person before the person who speaks to tell them something rude.

I remember a teacher having the class play telephone in about the third grade. That was the first I knew of it. It wasn't something we kids ever played on our own. Maybe that is because whispering into someone's ear is a girl thing, and we boys were too butch for that.

Yep, elementary/middle school. Was always being the asshole intentionally screwing up the words.

Yeah, it was a common time waster in grade school when waiting for an assembly or something.

A time filler for sure, but it did teach us about hearsay, lore, legends, how stories evolve, a bit of human nature as well..
