Back in the days when IMDb forums were up, I have noticed that horror movies fans community had above average IQ if compared to other mainstream forums. I wonder why. Was unable to find any research related to this phenomenon.

In The Mouth of Madness is quite intelligent.

Haven't seen the other one.

It's wild visually and musically, pretty gory at parts but really good. I first saw it on my Dad's descrambler box when I actually was ~12 haha.

I think it had an X-rating back then, as they did that to some non-porn films instead of just leaving them unrated like today. A Clockwork Orange, for example.

A Clockwork Orange is meaningless violence.

Fight Club is way better.

I just used it as an example of a mainstream film they gave an X-rating to back then.
