The fact this movie was released in 1988 makes this movie so scary. They even refer to the year 2025. A lot of the scenes in the movie relate to what's going on now. The scene where the lead actor is fighting with a minor character to see truth symbolizes how people refuse to see the truth today. The red pill blue pill reference is there, although the symbolism is different.
